Why Shepherd Public School?

A small town with a big heart, that’s what we call Shepherd. The same reason I was pulled here to teach so many years ago, 29 to be exact. There are so many reasons, but I work here because I was drawn to Shepherd after completing my student teaching and fell in love with the kids, families and community. The support and help from the teachers that came before me led the way for those of us to follow. It is a community of people that make you feel welcome and put all their energy into making things better for kids in all areas including how kids feel, how they grow, and how they learn. Shepherd Public Schools is a place to call home. Home is where you feel welcome, loved and safe. Shepherd puts the children first, not only at school, but in the community. It continues to be the small town with a big heart, that I am proud to call home.

I first started at Shepherd Public Schools as a substitute teacher. After three years of subbing, I was ecstatic to be offered a teaching position. Shepherd Public Schools collaborates with all buildings and finds ways to bring students, staff, parents, and the community together. Our District's Mission is to prepare all students to reach their full potential with the support of a unified community and as an educator, I want to be a part and fulfill that mission for our students. Our staff is offered tremendous support in order to meet each individual students' needs. I feel as if Shepherd Public Schools encourages persistence in achieving shared goals and respect for others and I could not ask for a more goal-oriented district to better the community for everyone. I proudly entered Shepherd's District knowing our district nurtures a sense of belonging between students and teachers fabricating our close-knit community. Go Jays!

As a graduate, an employee for over twenty years, and a parent of a current student, Shepherd is home to me. You will not find a better staff out there that puts the needs of our students first and a community that supports our school at every opportunity. If you are looking for a career in education, Shepherd is the destination to aim for.
